• It is important that you understand what the other people around you feel when you are on a project. Some of them may be afraid that your coming to the company means they will look bad or the work load will change a lot. Some employees might also think that your coming to the company might get them fired. All these thoughts induce fear amongst these employees. Then there are some who will simply dislike you, and a few might feel contemptuous as they think they have been working in the company for a long time and are better than you. You should accept all such cases and go about your job in a professional manner.
• Never forget that in a project, you cannot call anybody your friend, not even the people who recruited you. Company politics can be a messy affair and people will not hesitate to help themselves at your expense. Always be careful and concentrate on your work.
• It is extremely important to be cautious with the words that you use. Many a times you will find that your words are misunderstood or used deliberately against you. So in the beginning, it would be better if you listen and learn as much as you can about the company before speaking your mind.
• You will be hired as a consultant to make a change. Many people, especially the ones at the top will try to provide their own tips and ideas. Ignore people who seem to be biased in their opinions and listen to those who have a good insight about the functioning of the company.
