The economy is tough and to add to that, IT consultants these days have to contend with stiff competition due to globalization. In such a scenario, you can’t just sit passively and expect good things to happen to you. You need to do something about it. Here are some tips to get your career on the expressway despite all the economic woes.
There is hardly anyone who doesn’t indulge in some complaining about the current state of affairs. But what does it get you? Nothing! All the energy that goes into complaining and thinking bad about the shape your career is taking can be put to better use if you think hard about what you can do to change things, create a concrete plan and then take constructive action.
You don’t have to wait for an employer to thrust training on you. You have to seek it yourself.
Once you have shortlisted a few key skills that you would like to be a part of your repertoire, just go on the internet and look for tutorials or online training modules. You’ll be surprised by how much you can learn just sitting at home. All those skills will come handy when you are trying to succeed at your next interview or trying to do well at a project.
If you are loyal to an employer just for the sake of being loyal, then you need to rethink your priorities.
And after that, just don’t hesitate in moving on and using those skills to find a better job.
