Every IT consultants should always think hard about the direction that their career is headed in, and how they can continue to grow in this profession. You can deal with this in two ways. You can either continue complaining and let your careers progress with no real direction or plan a new course for it, and make sure you achieve the goals you set out for yourself when you chose this profession.
Make a Plan
To put your career on the right track, the first thing you need to do is start using your energy for something productive rather than wasting it over useless complaining. You may have a long list of problems, but complaining is not going to solve any of them. You may complain, if it makes you feel better, but it is more important to take a paper and pen in hand and start plotting an action plan for tackling these problems effectively. Once you start doing this, you will realize that taking command of your career and being in control of the situation feels much better than stumbling through it cluelessly and complaining about it.
Get Trained
Getting trained and acquiring new skill is also an important part of reinventing your career. Something as simple as a Google search can help you gain a lot of knowledge. For almost everything from hardware problems to ERP systems, you will find step by step instructions on the web. This knowledge is the vital first step in gaining concrete skills. It is best to opt for transferable and long term skills. For instance, project management training is likely to have a longer shelf life than the latest version of a programming language. Although both are useful skills, the former will most likely play a bigger role in your long term career plans.
